Three other Kenyan cadets are expected to fly to South Korea on August 8, 2024 to board a Korean ocean going vessels.

Shipboard training for seafarers involves various educational and practical sessions designed to ensure that crew members are proficient in their duties and adhere to safety and operational standards. 

Typically, the training includes safety procedures such as instruction on emergency protocols, including lifeboat operations, fire-fighting techniques, and first aid.

Second, operational skills like training on the use and maintenance of shipboard equipment, navigation systems, and machinery come in hand.

Third, regulatory compliance dealing with education on international maritime laws, safety regulations, and company policies are imparted.

Fourth, crew members are taught environmental awareness by being trained on pollution prevention, waste management, and environmental protection measures.

Fifth, seafarers are equipped with communication skills that enhance effective communication within the crew and with other ships or shore-based teams.

Sixth, crew members are exposed to cultural sensitivity by promoting teamwork and understanding among a diverse crew.

This training ensures that seafarers are well-prepared to handle their responsibilities safely and effectively while at sea.
